The South High Theatre Department opens its four-day run of “Grease,” beginning tonight, Thursday, Dec. 1. Performances run nightly at 7:30 p.m. through Saturday, Dec. 3, and finish with a Sunday, Dec. 4 matinee at 2:00 p.m. in the South High Theatre.
The South High production follows the musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey that opened in New York in 1972, and has seen success in London, national (U.S.) tours, and on the silver screen. The story, set in 1959, follows a group of bawdy, working class California teenagers as they navigate the challenges of life, love, friendship, violence, and other social issues.
South High School has produced Grease several times since it was first performed in the old theatre during the 1984 – 1985 school year. Forty-seven students are onstage in this year’s cast, not including another 55 working on set construction crews, backstage, in the light booth and with hair and make-up.
Ticket sales are moving quickly, especially for the Thursday and Friday shows. They can be reserved by calling the South box office at 446-2010. Tickets are $6.00 for adults; $5.00 for students, and $4.00 for seniors.
